Cactus Care & Assembly
Cactus, Succulent & Terrarium Care Guide
Light
Place your succulents and cacti in bright, indirect sunlight for best growth. They can handle direct sunlight, but introduce them gradually to prevent sunburn. Terrariums should be kept in bright, indirect light, as direct sun can overheat the enclosed space.
Potting Mix
Use a well-draining soil mix designed for succulents and cacti. You can create your own by adding sand or perlite to regular potting soil. For terrariums, a layer of activated charcoal beneath the soil helps prevent odors and mold.
Watering
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Stick your finger into the soil—if it's dry about an inch deep, it’s time to water.
Always water the soil, not the leaves, to prevent rot.
Overwatering is the most common cause of plant issues. Terrariums need very light watering (a few drops at a time) since they retain moisture longer.
Pots & Containers
Use pots with drainage holes to prevent excess water from pooling.
Ensure the pot has room for root growth, but not too much space.
Terrariums do not have drainage holes, so watering should be minimal.
Temperature
Succulents and cacti prefer warm conditions:
60°F to 80°F (15°C to 27°C) during the growing season
Protect from frost and freezing temperatures—they are not cold-hardy.
Fertilization
Feed lightly with a diluted liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing in winter when most plants go dormant.
Pruning & Maintenance
Remove dead or withered leaves and stems to encourage new growth.
Check for pests like mealybugs or aphids and treat them quickly if spotted.
Gently wipe off dust and debris from leaves with a soft brush or cloth.
Re-potting & Growth
Mini cacti will stay small in their current pots, as their roots adapt to the container size.
If you want your plant to grow larger, repot it into a bigger container with fresh soil.
Best time to repot? Spring!
Dormancy
Many succulents and cacti enter a dormant phase in winter, requiring less water and no fertilizer until active growth resumes in spring.
Mini Cactus Assembly & Care
How to Assemble Your Mini Cactus
Add a thin layer of dirt to the bottom of the pot to keep roots from touching the base.
Center your cactus in the middle of the pot using tweezers.
Fill with dirt until your cactus is snug in place.
Tap the pot lightly to remove excess soil and settle it evenly.
Water using the provided pipette—6-8 small drops should do the trick!
Mini Cactus Care
Watering: Once per month with 6-8 drops. If water sits on top, wait for absorption or tilt to drain.
Light: Needs bright sunlight, but keep away from heating vents or cold drafts.
Growth: Your cactus may arrive with little to no roots—these will form over time and adapt to the pot size, keeping the cactus tiny.
Terrarium Care
Light
Keep your terrarium in bright, indirect light—avoid direct sun, as the glass can trap heat and scorch the plants.
Watering
Water sparingly—once a month using a spray bottle or 4-6 drops of water around each plant with the provided pipette.
Airflow & Humidity
Open terrariums allow better airflow, making them ideal for succulents and cacti.
Grooming & Maintenance
Remove dead leaves to prevent rot.
If mold appears, reduce watering and increase airflow.
If plants outgrow the terrarium, trim or replace them to maintain balance.
Final Tips
Every plant species has unique needs, so research your specific varieties! The key to success is mimicking their natural habitat with well-draining soil, plenty of light, and careful watering. With the right care, your plants will thrive and bring beauty to your space!
