Appearance
A uniquely architectural succulent with vertical, zipper-like ridges running along its upright, green stems. Each stem is ribbed with tiny notches and faint spines, creating a stacked, segmented look. Typically grows in clumps up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall and wide.
Care & Growing Conditions
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to full sun. Protect from intense afternoon sun.
Soil: Well-draining cactus or succulent mix.
Watering: Water deeply but infrequently; allow soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Temperature: Thrives in USDA zones 9–11; protect from temperatures below 30°F (-1°C).
Humidity: Prefers low humidity and dry air.
Flower
Small reddish-purple flowers (cyathia) may appear at the top of the stems in warmer months. Flowers are modest but add a subtle charm.
Toxicity
Toxic to humans and pets if ingested. Contains a milky sap (latex) that can cause skin irritation. Handle with care and keep out of reach of children and animals.
