Common Names: Puquiensis Cactus, Andean Torch Cactus, Landrace Trichocereus
Appearance
A tall, robust columnar cactus originating from high-altitude regions of the Andes.
Features thick blue-green to gray-green stems with pronounced ribs and evenly spaced areoles bearing short to moderate spines.
Known for its strong, upright growth and classic torch-cactus silhouette, capable of reaching 15–20 feet tall in the ground.
Care & Growing Conditions
Light: Prefers full sun to bright direct light; strong light promotes thicker stems and deeper coloration.
Soil: Well-draining cactus or mineral-rich sandy soil mix.
Watering: Water deeply but infrequently; allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter.
Temperature: Hardy for a Trichocereus; tolerates brief drops to around 25°F (-4°C) when dry. Best in USDA zones 8b–11.
Humidity: Prefers low to moderate humidity with good airflow.
Flower
Produces large, fragrant white flowers that open at night during late spring to summer.
Blooms emerge near the upper portions of mature stems and may last only a single evening.
Toxicity
Non-toxic to humans and pets. Spines can be sharp—handle with care.
Important Note
Each Landrace Puquiensis is grown from naturally variable genetics. Rib count, spine length, and coloration may vary. The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured but will be the same species and quality.
