Common Names: Moon Cactus, Hibotan Cactus, Ruby Ball Cactus
Appearance
A small, brightly colored, globular cactus that lacks chlorophyll, making it appear red, pink, yellow, orange, or even purple.
Typically grafted onto a green Hylocereus cactus base to survive, as it cannot photosynthesize on its own.
Usually grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter, with the grafted base reaching up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall.
Care & Growing Conditions
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; too much direct sun can cause sunburn.
Soil: Well-draining, sandy, or cactus mix soil.
Watering: Needs moderate watering; allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Temperature: Thrives in USDA zones 10-11; should be kept above 50°F (10°C) and protected from frost.
Humidity: Prefers dry conditions and does not tolerate excessive moisture.
Flower
Occasionally produces small, pink or white flowers on mature plants, though flowering is rare in grafted specimens.
Toxicity
Non-toxic to humans and pets, making it safe for households.
