Common Names: Bunny Ear Cactus, Polka Dot Cactus, Angel's Wings Cactus
Appearance
A unique, pad-forming cactus with round, flat pads that resemble bunny ears.
Covered in tiny, velvety spines (glochids) that are yellow or white, resembling soft fuzz or polka dots.
Typically grows up to 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) tall and spreads out with multiple branching pads.
Care & Growing Conditions
Light: Prefers full sun; bright light enhances its growth and spiny texture.
Soil: Well-draining sandy or cactus mix soil.
Watering: Water moderately; allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common issue.
Temperature: Thrives in USDA zones 9-11; protect from temperatures below 30°F (-1°C).
Humidity: Prefers low humidity and dry conditions.
Flower
Produces bright yellow or orange flowers in late spring to summer.
Flowers bloom at the edges of the pads, making for a vibrant contrast against the cactus' spiny texture.
Toxicity
Non-toxic to humans and pets, but glochids (tiny spines) can be irritating if touched. Handle with care!
Important Note
